The hands of time have a way of slowly pulling down the facial skin, often resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging as it loses its firmness. This can cause patients to experience jowls, prominent nasolabial folds (the lines extended from the nose to the corners of the mouth), sunken cheeks, and other common signs of aging.
With the facelift surgical procedure, the facial skin and sometimes the underlying structures are lifted and tightened for a more youthful appearance. It is frequently paired with a neck lift or brow lift for uniform results above the neckline.
Facelifts with Dr. Anthony
Our facelifts are performed by facial anatomy expert and board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Charles Anthony II. During your consultation, Dr. Anthony will enlist his 10 years of facelift surgery experience, advanced medical training, and your medical history to help him determine if you are a candidate for a facelift. In addition, he’ll carefully observe your current symptoms and ask essential questions about your aesthetic goals.
If approved for facelift surgery, Dr. Anthony will perform one of the following techniques depending on the degree of your skin laxity:
- Mini facelift – The least invasive version of the facelift involves Dr. Anthony using small incisions to lift and correct the skin itself. The mini facelift is ideal for moderate sagging and wrinkles that are too advanced for laser skin resurfacing, dermal fillers, or Botox.
- SMAS facelift – SMAS stands for superficial musculoaponeurotic system, which is the thin layer of connective tissue and muscle just below the skin. The SMAS facelift is used to correct more significant issues with the cheeks and jawline.
- Deep-plane facelift – During this procedure, Dr. Anthony is able to help patients with the most advanced forms of facial aging by targeting the muscles deeper underneath the skin and SMAS layer. This allows for dramatic results, overhauling the skin’s firmness and texture.
When Should I Get a Facelift?
Facelifts are typically completed on patients in their 40s or 50s, although some recipients will be slightly older or younger. Dr. Anthony will be able to determine if your skin has aged to the point a facelift procedure is necessary or if a non-surgical approach might be more appropriate. As a general rule, it’s better to treat wrinkles and loose skin early before they get too extensive.
How Long Do Facelifts Last?
When the right type of facelift procedure is administered at the right time, the effects can last 10-15 years or more! After that, the aging process may have progressed to the point where another treatment is necessary to keep your results consistent.
